About Our Coffee and Tea

Ohhhh!  There’s something about the smell of freshly ground coffee in the morning to get you off on the right foot!  And when that first cup of coffee tastes like that smell? ……Heaven!  I (Frankee) started drinking coffee when I lived in Spain, so it was espresso and café con leche. I never did warm up to Uban at my parent’s house.  I was a coffee snob from the get-go!

The HomePage Cafe offers only the finest organic, fair-trade coffee and tea available. We are committed to supporting fair trade economics and organic farming in coffee and tea producing countries around the world. We have carefully chosen our suppliers for their committment to these same principles.

Our roaster, Grounds for Change, is a small family owned roastery in Poulsbo, WA. Their coffee is fair trade certified by TransFair USA, a third-party fair trade certification organization that rigorously monitors producers, roasters and distributors for adherence to fair trade criteria. All Grounds for Change coffee is certified organic by the Washington State Department of Agriculture, and they roast only shade grown coffee. GFC is a member of the Northwest Shade Coffee Campaign, a project of the Seattle Audubon Society, as well as a member of 1% for the Planet and donates 1% of total sales to local and national environmental organizations. For their work in promoting fair trade they are endorsed by Catholic Relief Services. Grounds for Change is a sustainable business. Not only do they reuse and recycle within their offices--including their burlap coffee bags, but they also use 100% renewable energy through Puget Sound Energy's Green Power Program. They offset their energy usage through the local "carbon credits" program. They use exclusively 100% PCC paper.

Here at the HomePage we also take our tea seriously!  There’s nothing like growing up in a British colony to make one appreciate the importance of tea in one’s life!  And there’s nothing like having a Rhodesian mother-in-law to make a girl learn how to brew tea!  When we met, Bruce was a tea drinker exclusively!  It has been his twenty plus years in this country (and living with Frankee) that got him into coffee. And when we lived in Botswana afternoon tea was a must!  We served afternoon tea to our safari clients every day before the evening game drive.  We also got into the habit of serving it at the Voss Inn, which we still try to do whenever we can. After all, afternoon tea is so civilized!

The HomePage Cafe works with several tea providers, all of whom sell certified organic teas. Although the tea industry is new to fair trade, all of our providers are committed to the principals of fair trade economics. They travel personally to the tea producing countries and have a personal knowledge of the communities that grow and process their teas.
