Zimbabwe has recently had their presidential election. It was no surprise that the opposition party, the MDC won the election, and also no surprise that Mugabe refuses to accept the outcome of the election. The Chinese military is patroling with Mugabe's army throughout the rural areas, and it has been reported that a Chinese cargo ship laden with arms is docked off the coast of Durban. Farewell to Shae & Lara! Shae has left us to move to Minneapolis to embark upon her career as a hair stylist. We will miss you Shae! Lara is off to Costa Rica to study for a semester. After that she intends to return to Boston to be with her family--and perhaps continue her studies.
It is with a very heavy heart that we announce that Bruce's Dad, Lee Muller, passed away on December 19 in Zimbabwe. Lee had suffered for many years from emphysema. His condition was complicated by the stress created by the current political & economic situation which make day to day living a challenge for all Zimbabweans.
Congratulations to Lara for winning our holiday beverage competition. Lara's Purple Haze Cocoa sold the best of all of our holiday beverage specials.
Congratulations to Shae's sister, Shana, on the birth of her baby girl, Riley, on January 7. Mother and baby are doing fine in Salt Lake City.
The Huffing for Stuffing Thanksgiving Day Race on behalf of the Gallatin Valley Food Bank was a big success. The HomePage participated as a sponsor of the event, and we have just been informed that there were 931 registered participants, 540 pounds of non-perishable food donations and $8,000 proceeds furnished to the Food Bank.
October was Fair Trade Month, and in honor of that the HomePage actively promoted our fair trade products, and raffled off a gift basket of fair trade products valued at $275. The proceeds were donated to Coffee Kids to help them with their valuable work helping families in coffee producing countries to better the quality of their lives.
